Allereerst wenst Stichting Dawa Sherpa al haar sponsors, donateurs, adviseurs en vrijwilligers een gezond, gelukkig, vredig en vooral liefdevol 2018 toe.
First of all wishes the Dawa Sherpa Foundation all its sponsors, donors, advisers and volunteers a healthy, happy, peaceful and loving 2018.

Het is een lange tijd stil geweest, maar dat betekent niet dat we niet actief waren. Na de reis naar Nepal heeft het bestuur besloten om in goede verstandhouding uit elkaar te gaan. We streefden er allemaal naar hetzelfde doel te bereiken; bijdragen aan de herbouw van Yarmasing en Duguna Gadi, maar de manier waarop verschilde zodanig dat samenwerken niet langer een optie was. Op verzoek van de twee andere bestuursleden werd het geld wat zij hadden binnengebracht ondergebracht in een door hen nieuw opgerichte stichting. Ik heb ervoor gezorgd dat een en ander werd beschreven bij de notaris, om er zeker van te zijn dat dat geld ook daadwerkelijk naar Duguna Gadi gaat. De afgesplitste stichting wordt opgeheven zodra Duguna Gadi is geholpen. Stichting Dawa Sherpa daarentegen wil ook nog na het herbouw project actief blijven in Nepal. Het geld van de veiling en van donaties via mijn connecties zit nog veilig in Stichting Dawa Sherpa. Ik heb besloten om voorlopig met adviseurs te werken. Daarnaast wordt er ook gezocht naar nieuwe bestuursleden; een secretaris en een penningmeester. Ik heb tevens het beleidsplan van de stichting op papier gezet. Deze is in te zien door hier te klikken. Dit alles gebeurde in januari. Daarna begon de zon weer te schijnen. It has been quiet for a while but that does not mean that we were not active. After the trip to Nepal, the Board decided to amiably disband. We all aspired to the same purpose; contributing to the rebuilding of Yarmasing and Duguna Gadi, but on the manner in which this would be accomplished opinions differed so much among us that working together was no longer an option. Two of the members set up a new foundation and the funds that they had personally raised were brought under that umbrella at their request. I took pains to do this transfer through a notary in order to insure that the money will indeed go to Daguna Gadi. As soon as Daguna Gadi has been assisted, the newly formed foundation will no longer exists. The Dawa Sherpa Foundation however will remain active in Nepal even after the reconstruction project. The money from our Auction and the donations through my personal connections are still safe with the Dawa Sherpa Foundation. In the meantime I have decided to work with advisers. We are also looking for new board members, a secretary and treasurer. I have also put the plan of action on paper. You can peruse this by clicking here All of this happened in January. After that the sun started to shine again. |

In Yarmasing en de rest van Duguna Gadi is men gestart met de bouw. De fundamenten liggen er intussen. Op de foto’s hierboven is te zien wat een enorme klus het is om te graven in de rots bodem. Tijdens ons bezoek aan Nepal hebben we afspraken gemaakt met het de leden van het IDC. (Integrated Development Committee, het comité wat zich bezig houdt met de herbouw) Stichting Dawa Sherpa zal nog even buiten beeld blijven. Dit om te voorkomen dat de regering het herbouw budget niet uitkeert. Ieder getroffen gezin in Nepal heeft namelijk recht op $ 3000,- Indien echter een buitenlandse hulporganisatie actief is keert de regering niets uit. Stichting Dawa Sherpa heeft slechts een beperkt budget, vergeleken met wat er nodig is om een heel dorp weer opnieuw op te bouwen. Zodoende is de toelage van de regering meer dan welkom. Wanneer de tijd daar is zal het IDC ons laten weten in welke vorm men hulp van ons nodig heeft. In Yarmasing and the rest of Duguna Gadi the construction has started. The foundations have been laid. On the pictures above you can see what intense labor is required to dig into the base rock. During our visit in Nepal we have made certain agreements with the members of the IDC (Integrated Development Committee); the committee that is in charge of the reconstruction. The Dawa Sherpa Foundation will still keep a distance temporarily to prevent that the government will not pay the reconstruction budget. Every affected family has a right to $3000,- from the government of Nepal. If a foreign help organization is active in the area, the government pays nothing. The Dawa Sherpa Foundation has only limited funds in light of the total need for rebuilding an entire village. So the government payout is more than welcome. When the time is right, the IDC will let us know in what form our support will be needed. |

Halverwege het jaar kwam de vraag of Stichting Dawa Sherpa het Boeddhistische klooster (Tashi Dargaling Gumba) annex gemeenschapshuis wil gaan herbouwen. Het klooster (hierboven) is belangrijk voor het saamhorigheid gevoel in deze Boeddhistische gemeenschap, waar deze godsdienst nauw verbonden is met het dagelijks leven: men bid in het klooster, viert er geboorte, dood en oogst en men komt er samen om te feesten. Dit project is begroot op € 50.000,- waarvan we nog € 25.000,- tekort komen. In the middle of the year the Dawa Sherpa Foundation was asked to rebuild the Buddhist Monastery (Tashi Dargaling Gumba) and Community center. The Monastery (above) is important for the cohesiveness in this Buddhist community where religion is closely tied to daily life; it is used for prayer, celebration of births, deaths, and harvest. This is where people gather for any kind of festivities. This project is estimated at € 50.000,- of which we are € 25.000,- short. |

Wat me ertoe brengt om de aandacht te vestigen op onze ANBI status. Schenken aan Stichting Dawa Sherpa geeft belasting voordelen voor de schenker, mits deze belastingplichtig is aan de Nederlandse staat. Dit geldt voor zowel particulieren als voor bedrijven. Een schenking aan onze stichting maakt mogelijk dat die schenking aftrekbaar is van de inkomsten belasting en van de vennootschap belasting. Het totaal bedrag aan belasting moet toch betaald worden, maar door te schenken aan onze stichting komt uw belasting geld ten goede aan de Nepalese dorpelingen van Yarmasing, Duguna Gadi. Een mooie gedachte toch? Temeer omdat zij helaas nog steeds te leiden hebben onder de gevolgen van de aardbeving van bijna drie jaar geleden. Stichting Dawa Sherpa werkt momenteel aan de voorbereiding van twee projecten: bovengenoemd klooster en (hieronder) het plastic recycle project. Voor beide projecten is nog veel geld nodig. Mocht er iemand zijn die ideeën heeft om een inzamelingsactie te organiseren, of die persoonlijk eenmalig of structureel een vast bedrag wil doneren….. Dit wordt warm ontvangen. Daarnaast heeft de stichting een start gemaakt om een werkgelegenheidsproject op te zetten. (Sinds China de Nepalees/Tibetaanse grens gesloten houdt, is voor de dorpelingen een belangrijke bron van inkomsten, handel drijven met Tibet, weggevallen) Het betreft het oprichten van meerdere plastic recycle fabriekjes. We gaan gebruik maken van de vier machines en de knowhow die Dave Hakkens (foto hierboven) met zijn Precious Plastic Project heeft ontwikkeld. Ons plastic project staat los van het herbouw project en in die zin zullen beider budgetten ook gescheiden blijven. The foundation has also begun to set up a job opportunity project. (Since China has closed the Nepal/Tibet border, the trade with Tibet, an important source of income, has disappeared.) Therefore we are looking into establishing four small plastic recycling factories. We are going to make use of the four machines and the knowhow that Dave Hakkens (photo above) has developed with his Precious Plastic Project. Our plastic project is separate from our rebuilding project and in that sense the two budgets will remain separate. |

Op de foto hierboven zit Jonaske de Ruiter links van mij. Jonaske is al jaren actief in Nepal en heeft er ook voor langere tijd gewoond. Tot voor kort was zij vooral actief in de regio Chitwan, voor de Stichting Medora en nu gaat ze dus ook voor Stichting Dawa Sherpa aan de slag. Het grappige is dat wij elkaar in Nepal hebben ontmoet en dat we in Nederland maar 8 km van elkaar verwijderd blijken te wonen. We hebben besloten om samen een team te vormen om het plastic project van de grond te krijgen. En dat gaat geweldig. De foto is gemaakt tijdens de verkiezing van “Het Goedste Doel” van Nederland georganiseerd door de AFAS Foundation, een van de sponsoren van Stichting Dawa Sherpa. In the photo above to my left is Jonaske de Ruiter. Jonaske has been active in Nepal for many years already and has also lived there for some time. Until recently she was especially active in the region of Chitwan for the Medora Foundation. Now she is ready to take on the cause for the Dawa Sherpa Foundation as well. It is interesting to note that while we met in Nepal, in the Netherlands we live only 8 kilometers apart. We have decided to team up to get the Plastic Project going. And it is going great! Hierboven is een van de plastic recycle machines te zien. Deze machine vermaalt het plastic tot kleine korreltjes, die weer omgesmolten kunnen worden tot nieuwe producten. De vier machines bevatten onderdelen die overal ter wereld te koop zijn. De werktekeningen heeft Dave openbaar gemaakt op zijn website en kunnen door iedereen gedownload worden, waarna de machines gebouwd kunnen worden. In Nepal is Sonam Sherpa (foto hieronder) degene die het fabriekje in Kathmandu gaat runnen. Hij is al druk bezig met de voorbereidingen. Ook is het de bedoeling om een soortgelijk fabriekje in de regio Chitwan op te starten, waar Jonaske veel lokale contacten heeft. We willen tegelijkertijd in Nederland een tweetal werkplaatsen opstarten in dagbesteding centra voor mensen met een beperking of met een grote achterstand tot de arbeidsmarkt. Hiervoor zijn al gesprekken met een instelling op gang gebracht. Zo is het mogelijk om kennis en ervaring, het productieproces en het productontwerp op de voet te volgen, waarna we deze kennis kunnen delen met Nepal. Voor deze vier projecten is een budget begroot van een kleine € 44.000,- Het mooie van deze projecten is dat hulp op meerdere niveaus wordt geboden: vele mensen gaan een inkomen krijgen en de aarde wordt verlost van een deel van de plastic vervuiling en we gaan onze eigen energie opwekken d.m.v. zonne-energie. In the photo above, you can see one of the plastic recycle machines. This machine grinds plastic into small granules. These can then be melted and formed into new products. The four machines are built of parts that are readily available anywhere in the world. Dave has made the design plans public on his website. They can be downloaded by anyone who wishes to build these machines. Sonam Sherpa (photo below) will run the small factory in Kathmandu, Nepal. He is already busy with preparations. We also intend to build a similar factory in the Chitwa region where Jonaske has many local contacts. At the same time we want to start two workshops in centers for productivity of adults with limited ability or work opportunity in the Netherlands. Conversations with an institution have begun. That makes it possible for us to get knowledge and experience by following the production process and design closely, so we can share that knowledge with Nepal. Intussen heeft Dawa Sherpa ook niet stilgezeten. Hij is in Golden, Colorado een netwerk aan het opbouwen om de stichting en met name het plastic project te ondersteunen. Hij werkt er samen met twee vrijwilligers; Travis Terrell Ramos en Katie Willard (foto hieronder). Travis en Katie hebben ervoor gezorgd dat Dawa zijn foto’s ter verkoop kon aan bieden door ze af te drukken en in te lijsten. Hij heeft al één foto verkocht om het plastic project te ondersteunen. Ook hebben Travis en Katie van de studenten van “the Scholar program of the Colorado School of Mines” in Golden een mooi bedrag voor het plastic project gekregen. In the meantime, Dawa Sherpa himself has not sat still. He is in Golden, Colorado building a network to support the Foundation and specifically the Plastic project. He works with two volunteers Travis Terrell Ramos and Katie Willard (photo below) Travis and Katie have arranged the printing and framing of Dawa’s pictures so he can offer them for sale. He has already sold one for the Project. Travis and Katie have also received funds for the Plastic Project from the students of the Scholar Program of the Colorado School of Mines in Golden. |
